报告题目:Asteroid Observation Techniques

报告摘要:In this talk, we will discuss two aspects in asteroid observations. The first aspect concerns with the operational techniques in operating telescopes located at thousands of kilometers away. We will use our SARA (Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy) telescope located at Kitt Peak National Park in Arizona, USA to do live demonstration and to show the benefit in remotely operating astronomical telescopes, as well as to explain the operation details.
The second aspect concerns with the selection of asteroid targets. With a 1-meter class telescope, it is possible to carry out photometric studies of targets as dim as 17-18 magnitude. This gives us flexibilities in selecting dimmer asteroids which are more numerous in numbers. As a result, it is possible to include two asteroids with sufficient brightness into the same field of view of about 15’x15’, thus increase telescope efficiency.
We will end our talk with a discussion of applying our techniques in observing other astronomical targets, such as supernovae, active galactic nuclei, and globular clusters.
