报告题目：The Submillimeter Array Project

　　报告摘要：The Submillimeter Array (SMA) project has been operating on Mauna Kea since 2003. The ASIAA and SAO together built the 8-element interferometer. As the ALMA has begun operations since 2014, the SMA remains an important instrument for submm wavelength imaging. In order to compete in terms of sensitivity, the SMA intends to increase its instantaneous photon gathering ability by increasing the bandwidth, to operate with dual polarizations, and to build multi-pixel receivers. Some of the important SMA science will be reviewed, including the imaging of the Galactic Center, the study of circumstellar jets, and the imaging of the magnetic field structures in star forming regions.

　　报告人简介：Paul T. P. Ho，国际著名射电天文学家，中央研究院院士，现任东亚核心天文台（East Asian Observatory）台长。曾长期担任台湾中央研究院天文所所长，哈佛－史密松天体物理中心资深研究员。Dr. Paul Ho在恒星形成、超大质量黑洞等多个领域做出了杰出贡献：1983年与诺贝尔奖获得者Townes合作的ARAA文章《Interstellar Ammonia》是分子云与恒星形成领域的经典文献；在哈佛－史密松天体物理中心任资深研究员期间，作为亚毫米波干涉阵（Submillimeter Array）的项目科学家，积极推动了该项目的启动、建设，并对其成功的科学运行起着关键作用；2002至2014年期间，担任台湾中研院天文所所长，凭借其巨大的科学感召力和杰出的管理、协调能力，成功领导台湾天文所加入SMA、ALMA等国际重大射电项目和CHFT、SUBARU等光学红外项目，并逐渐培养起天文所自己的天文技术和科研力量，使得台湾的天文研究水平在十余年间得到了飞跃式的发展；自2014年起，担任由中国、日本、韩国、台湾地区联合成立的天文机构——东亚核心天文台的首任台长。
