摘要:Protoplanetary disks are the cradle of planets. Enabled by high-resolution, high-sensitivity observations from optical/IR to millimeter wavelengths, we now recognize that disks host a rich variety of structures across multiple spatial scales, from disk substructures to large-scale connections with their environments. These discoveries open a new avenue to investigate how disk structures shape planet formation, and provide unprecedented opportunities to use such structures to constrain disk physical and chemical parameters. I will discuss some theoretical developments triggered by these findings and present several case studies linking state-of-the-art observations from VLT, JWST, ALMA, and NOEMA to theories of planet formation and disk/planet chemical inventories. I will also discuss emerging opportunities and challenges in detecting and characterizing protoplanets caught in the act of formation.
