现任中国科学院紫金山天文台“历算和天文参考系研究团组”首席研究员，中国科学技术大学天文与空间科学学院教授。1997年获得南京大学天文学系天体测量与天体力学专业博士学位，导师孙义燧。2001年10月-至2002年10月作为访问学者在法国巴黎天文台历书编算和天体力学研究所工作，与A. Albouy和J. Laskar建立了长期合作关系。

多年来从事天体力学基础和应用研究，包括天体力学定性理论、多种天体系统动力学、历书编算理论和天文导航等方面的研究。在N-体问题中心构形和动力学稳定性、太阳系动力学结构、双恒星和多恒星系统轨道拟合、恒星动力学和星系结构形成、系外行星轨道共振和系统稳定性、掩天象预报方法、脉冲星导航的时空基准等方面分别取得过一些研究成果。

近年来的研究兴趣主要集中在以下两个研究方向上：一是天体运动理论，关注的重点是包括太阳系大行星和小行星、天然卫星、双恒星和多恒星系统的子星等具体天体的运动理论，以及与此相关的基本天文学问题和其它学科及实际中的应用问题。二是天体力学定性理论，关注的重点是经典的N-体中心构形问题和不同限制下N-体系统的稳定和瓦解判据问题。
