Abstract:With their wide yet well-determined age coverage, precise distances, and accurate proper motions, open clusters serve as natural laboratories for stellar formation and evolution, and as key tracers for mapping the three-dimensional structure and dynamical history of the Milky Way. In the era of large-scale astrometric and spectroscopic surveys such as Gaia and LAMOST, cluster research is undergoing a historic transformation toward larger samples and higher precision. This talk systematically explores how multi-wavelength survey data can advance our understanding of Galactic star formation and Milky Way structure, organized around two themes: (1) using cluster populations across a broad age baseline to constrain the large-scale structure and evolution of the spiral arms and Galactic warp; and (2) Extending from the Galactic disk into the circumgalactic environments, where newly discovered young clusters shed light on the triggering mechanisms of star formation within high-velocity clouds. Together, these results highlight the central role that new open cluster samples play in building a coherent picture of the Milky Way's assembly and ongoing evolution.
