报告题目：Filling the UV Gap: UVEX and the Low-Metallicity Galaxy Frontier

摘要：Despite major advances in optical and infrared astronomy, deep, wide-field ultraviolet (UV) observations remain relatively limited due to technological challenges. The Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX), a NASA Medium-Class Explorer mission scheduled for launch in 2030, aims to fill this observational gap through simultaneous far-UV and near-UV imaging, wide-field coverage, and moderate-resolution UV spectroscopy. A major scientific goal of UVEX is to explore low-mass, low-metallicity galaxies, particularly extremely metal-poor systems that remain difficult to study with existing UV facilities. These nearby galaxies provide valuable laboratories for investigating star formation, stellar populations, and chemical enrichment under conditions similar to those in the early Universe. By discovering fainter galaxies and obtaining their UV emission-line spectra, UVEX will help constrain their chemical abundances and ionization conditions, providing important local benchmarks for interpreting high-redshift galaxy observations from JWST. Beyond low-metallicity galaxies, UVEX will investigate massive and stripped stars in the Magellanic Clouds, explore the earliest stages of supernovae and neutron-star mergers, and conduct a deep, time-domain all-sky UV survey. Together, these capabilities will advance our understanding of galaxy evolution and the dynamic universe.
