报告题目：New frontiers in the formation of the most massive galaxies  in the early universe

　　摘要：Our current understanding of galaxy and structure formation (both observations and theoretical modeling) in the early universe is mainly based on studies in the ultraviolet (UV). However, it is known that such UV-selected galaxies are biased significantly against massive, dusty galaxies, and it remains unclear what is the true abundance of massive galaxies and cosmic star formation density in the early universe. In this talk, I will present our recent discovery of a dominant population of massive galaxies in the early universe, which have been completely missed from previous surveys due to their extreme faintness in the optical-to-NIR wavelengths (optically invisible). I will discuss how this population of galaxies shed lights on both galaxy and large-scale structure formation in the early universe, and how they challenge our current galaxy formation models.
