报告题目:高纬度电离层的极光和沉降粒子

报告摘要:在地磁活动高的时候,强烈极光在高纬度区域中产生,这些极光是由太阳与磁层交互作用粒子沉降至电离层所造成的发光现象。无结构的沉降粒子(unstructured particles)是由磁层粒子透过波动散射的机制,掉进损失锥(losscone)后沉降至电离层,因而产生均匀的扩散极光(diffuse auroras),而有结构性的沉降粒子(structured particles)可能以逆转V(inverted)或阿尔文(Alfvenic)加速机制,将沉降电子加速,来产生强烈的分立极光(discrete auroras)。当行星际磁场是南向时,太阳风的能量储存在磁尾中,先产生晨昏侧的二胞型极光(two-cell auroras)和生长期电喷流(growth phase electrojets),然后储存在磁尾的磁能突然释放至高纬度电离层,产生夜侧的磁副暴极光(substorm auroras)和磁副暴电喷流(substorm electrojets)。太阳风动压增强也会产生强烈极光,此极光将扩展至大部分的极帽区域(polar cap)。当地磁活动弱时(北向或南向行星际磁场),高纬度区域可以观测到太阳或极尖区指向(sun or cuspalinged)和喉区(throat)极光。本报告将回顾和讨论不同型态的极光、电喷流以及可能产生极光的沉降粒子的特征,以及大气自发产生的辉光(airglow)现象,以凸显与极光产生机制的区别。

报告题目:A New Scheme of Finding Normal Direction of Interplanetary Directional Discontinuities

报告摘要:Directional discontinuities (DDs) are common structures in the interplanetary space. Except the shock waves, these apparent large changes in the magnetic field directions are most likely to be tangential discontinuities (TDs) or rotational discontinuities (RDs). Correctly determining the normal of a DD is important to understand the changes of magnetic field phase fronts adjacent to a discontinuity as well as helpful for the applications in many regimes of space physics research. In this talk, I will first introduce our new scheme of estimating the normal directions of DDs based on the idea that the adjacent magnetic phase fronts are closely parallel to the DD plane. Some event studies of Cluster and STEREO-B observations will be performed to show that our scheme can provide the same accuracy as that from the multi-spacecraft calculation and can be applied to the single spacecraft measurements with even small rotation of magnetic fields across the DDs. By means of a reliable normal estimation and its variation profile, we can deduce the evolution of magnetic field phase fronts in the vicinity of discontinuities. Few events will be presented in the second part of this talk for discussions.
